Death Of CHAS. BRUETT

Charles, Bruett, a Civil war veteran, died Sunday night about 7 o'clock at the age of 82 years. Mr. Bruett had been in poor health for several years, but had a stroke Friday afternoon. He never regained consciousness after 6 o'clock that evening. Mr. Bruett has been making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Almon James on East Filmore street. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Methodist church and burial was made in the Stringtown cemetery in Douglas township.

Mr. Bruett was born near Hamburg, Germany, March 13th, 1844. He came to the United States in 1858. He served three years in the Civil war, enlisting August 12th, 1862, in Company H, 117th Illinois infantry.

After the war he lived in Wyoming. Mr. Bruett came to Madison county about 1880 and resided in Douglas township until six years ago, when he came to Winterset to reside with the James family.

He is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, his wife, the former Mary Ellen Flanigan, and two children having preceded him in death.

Charles Bruett, the son of Edward and Rebecca Bruett, was born near Hamburg, Germany, March 13th, 1844, and died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Almon James on November 14th, 1926. Mr. Bruett came to America when 14 years of age and at the age of 18 enlisted with Company H of the Illinois Infantry in August, 1862, and served until the close of the war. He saw continuous service until the end of the conflict. After this he spent a number of years in Wyoming and elsewhere. He came to Madison county in 1880 and settled in Douglas township.

His marriage to Mary Ellen Flanigan came on September 22nd, 1881, and to them were given two children both dying in infancy. Mr. Bruett continued to live in Douglas township until he came to Winterset six years ago. Mrs. Bruett passed away in 1906.

He was confirmed in the Lutheran church at the age of 14 years and while he did not unite with any denomination here he was always faithful to his faith and trust in Jesus as his Savior. He lived a life of honesty and upright integrity, a man beloved by all who knew him. All are ready to testify to his life of usefulness as a good soldier, a kind husband and a true friend.

He was the youngest and last of his family, four brothers and one sister having preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his departure numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends.
