Funeral services for Ulon H. Marrs, 89, who died October 14 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital were held Wed., Oct. 17 at the First United Presbyterian Church. The Rev. David Bauer officiated. Burial with Masonic graveside rites was at Greenfield Cemetery.
Mr. Marrs was born June 30, 1901 in Pretty Prairie, Reno County, Kansas to Charles Henry and Susie E. (Richardson) Marrs. He was married November 19, 1933 to Louise Alley. He retired from the Iowa and Illinois Gas and Electric sales department in Fort Dodge in 1967. During his lifetime, he also worked at Woolworth's in Kansas, as manager of Winterset's Burg's 5 Cent to $1 Store, for United Airlines in Cheyenne helping to modify the B-17 bomber, as Madison County Weed Commissioner for ten years and at Holiday Inn after retirement.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, an ordained deacon of the First United Presbyterian Church, a member of the Madison County Sportsman's Club and Conservation Commission chief instructor of hunter education in Madison County. He received the Governor's Citation for Volunteerism and in 1986 the Ulon H. Marrs Shooting Range of Madison County was named in his honor.
Mr. Marrs was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are his wife, Louise; three sons, John of Fort Dodge, David of Fairfax, Va., and Stephen of Chicota, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Maly of Manson; a sister, Alverna Hodges of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
