Frank O. Allen, Denison

Frank O. Allen, 91, died March 29, 2002, at the Denison Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, April 1, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison with Father Edward Murray as Celebrant. Burial was at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery in Denison.

Frank Allen was born Sept. 29, 1910, to Clair and Mary Allen of Shields, N.D. He received his early education at a country school in Grant County, N.D., graduating from Shields High School. In 1929, he moved to Iowa. In 1936, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Shafer. They had two children. Dorothy passed away in 1966. In 1970, he was united in marriage with Frances Bailiff Waters at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. They resided on Frank's farm near Winterset where he continued to farm his land until retirement in 1977. Following retirement, they moved to Denison where Frank worked part time for Farm Service Co-op and as a relief driver for the Crawford County Mini Bus. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 2074, 4th Degree Luke E. Hart Assembly 0277 of Defiance, Golden Kiwanis (past president), Toastmasters, RE-NEW, Legion of Mary and Howdy Neighbors (president). He also had portrayed Santa for the Chamber of Commerce.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Dorothy, four brothers, a sister and two grandsons.

He is survived by his wife, Frances, of Denison; a son, Curtis Allen (wife Connie) of Winterset; a daughter, Laura Watts (husband Larry) of Winterset; five stepchildren, Mary and Bill Cullen of Denison, Larry and Jeanette Waters of Iowa City, Charlie and Lisa Waters of Claycomo, Mo., and Leo and Bev Waters and Tom and Karna Waters, all of Des Moines; a sister, Rose Altenhofen of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; three grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 33 strepgreat-grandchildren; and one step-great=great-grandson.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison.
