NEIL ANDERSON Dies At Perry

Neil W. Anderson, who had operated the Anderson Funeral home in Winterset for 30 years prior to his retirement, died Saturday, July 4, 1970, at Perry. He was 76 years of age.

Mr. Anderson was born at DeSoto on June 12, 1894, a son of Maurice and Katie Anderson. He graduated from the school of business of Simpson college at Indianola in 1915, and was a graduate of the Hohenshoe school of embalming in Des Moines. He was employed at Dunn's Funeral home in Des Moines for 12 years, and operated the Anderson Funeral service in Winterset for 30 years, retiring in 1960.

He was married on June 25, 1919, to Buena V. Thompson, who survives him.

He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset, the Masonic lodge at Winterset, and the Des Moines consistory of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He was also a member of the American Legion, Rotary International, and the Iowa Funeral Directors and Embalmers association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Paul M. Anderson of Ames and Mrs. Raymond Brock of Sycamore, Ill.; six grandsons; and a brother, M. T. Anderson of Kansas City, Mo.

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John Fink, and by the Rev. Tom Foglesong of Des Moines. Burial was made in the Masonic cemetery in Des Moines.

Coordinator's note: An item in the January 14, 1932 edition of the Madisonian indicated that Neil Anderson was moving from Des Moines to Winterset to take over the undertaking business of the recently deceased Harry Tidrick.
