Loren L. Airy, Marion

Loren L. Airy, 79, died Fri., July 5 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services were held July 9 at Marion Christian Church. Marion with the Rev. Chris Coble officiating.

Born December 17, 1911 to Delbert and Dora Pearcy Airy in Derby, Mr. Airy married Verna Smith on January 10, 1937 in Jefferson. A 1935 graduate of Iowa State University, he was a former county extension director and fieldman for the Iowa Farm Bureau. He was a Madison County Extension agent in the 1940s. Since 1946, he farmed in rural Marion until retiring. He was a member of Marion Christian Church, Iowa State Alumni Association, past president of Linn County Farm Bureau, on the Linn County school board, and wrote the book "Last Chance Kid".

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Carol Davis of Cedar Rapids; two sons, John J. of Marion and Philip of Roseburg, Ore.; three brothers, John M. of Bloomington, Wis., and Eldon and Raymond both of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Mildred Airy of Hiawatha, five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Burial was at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. A memorials fund has been established for the Marion Christian Church.
