Mary Johnson Scrivner, Indianola

Mary Catharine Johnson Scrivner, 85, died Aug. 14, 2005, at Westview Care Center in Indianola.

Funeral services were held today at St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev.Darold Snow officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Mary Catharine Scrivner was born March 3, 1920, to Maurice Ordell and Mabel Blanch (Hines) McVay of New Virginia. She attended Pleasant Ridge Country School, graduating from New Virginia High School in 1938. On Aug. 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to William Henry "Billy" Johnson. During their first years of marriage, they farmed in Warren and Madison counties before moving to the St. Charles area in 1953. Following Billy's death in 1967, she later married Gene Scrivner on April 4, 1970. They resided in Norwalk before moving back to Catharine's farm near St. Charles in 1973, they moved into St. Charles and later to Indianola. Katharine was a member of the St. Charles Parish and its women's afternoon group.

She was preceded in death by both husbands; an infant brother, Raymond; and a sister, Dorothy Ficter.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen (Johnson) Peterson of Xenia, Ohio; one son, Perry Johnson of St. Charles; one stepdaughter, Nancy (Scrivner) Hinerichsen of Grimes; one stepson, Gary Scrivner of Indianola; a sister, Helen Dudney of Lorimor; foster sisters, Arleen McCuddin of New Virginia and Alice Banker of Altoona; and four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
