Marie E. Fagen, Dexter

Marie E. Fagen, 79, died of a heart attack Fri., Oct. 11 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines. Services were held October 15 at Dexter United Methodist Church.

Born in Joplin, Mo. March 22, 1912 to Charles and Ethel (Bricker) Benson, she had lived in Dexter since 1977. She previously lived in Earlham. She was a retired teacher and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Dexter United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Golden Agers, Dexter D.T. Club and P.E.O.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a son.

Surviving are two sons, Alan of Ossining, N.Y. and Albert of Earlham; three grandchildren; and one grandchild.

Burial was in Penn Center Cemetery near Earlham. Memorial contributions may be made to Dexter First Responders.

Marie Elizabeth Benson Fagen, the daughter of Charles and Ethel Bricker Benson, was born on March 22, 1912 Joplin, Missouri.

Her family moved to Earlham in her early childhood. After graduating from Earlham School, Marie went on to get her teaching degree from Simpson College and taught school for approximately five years.

On May 27, 1940, Marie was united in marriage to Harold M. Fagen and to this union three children were born. Marie lived in the Penn Center neighborhood until she resumed her teaching career from 1966 until 1977 at which time she retired and moved into Dexter.

Marie was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dexter, U.M.W., Daughters of the American Revolution, Golden Agers, past member of PEO and Dexter DT Club. Marie enjoyed genealogy research and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Harold Marvin Jr., her parents and a sister, Eleanor Flora.

Marie is survived by two children: Alan Lee Fagen and wife Bonnie, their daughter, Tania Marie Fagen of Ossining, New York and Albert Charles Fagen, wife Cris, their daughter Tammy Evans and son Thomas Fagen, also one great grandchild, Samantha Evans all of Earlham, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted October 15, 1991 at the United Methodist Church, Dexter, Iowa with Reverend Jill Flyr officiating. Robert Lawson provided organ music. Pallbearers were Pat Brink, Gerald Stanley, William Hastie, Tim Stiles, Edward Love and Dave Bentler. Interment was in Penn Center Cemetery, rural Earlham, Iowa.
