Elmer Eugene "Gene" Decker, 65, died March 6, 1992, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines of complications after heart surgery. Funeral services were held March 10 at Collins Funeral Home with Pastor Heinie Boomgarden officiating.
He was born on February 2, 1927 in Peru to Elmer and Grace (Kirsch) Decker and attended Peru schools. On June 6, 1948 he married Virginia Jacobs at Peru Methodist Church. He worked for a time for the Chicago Great Western Railroad running heavy equipment and retired from Madison County Secondary Roads Department. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Winterset Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142. He lived in Madison County until 1960 when he moved to Union County.
He was preceded in death by an infant son.
Surviving are his wife of Lorimor; his parents of Winterset; a son, Rodric Eugene Decker of Lorimor; two daughters, Carol Anne Lane of Tucson, Ariz. and Martha Elaine Gilleland of Cedar Rapids; six brothers, Dean, Dale and Everett, all of Peru; and Jim, Joe and Lee, all of Lorimor; two sisters, Marie Porter of Osceola and Lois Dillinger of Peru; and five grandchildren.
Military graveside services were held by V.F.W. Post 8142 at Peru Cemetery.
