A funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 9, at Collins Funeral Home for John Eldon Haines of Winterset, who died Aug. 6, 1982, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was 71 years old.
Born Feb 5, 1911 in Madison county, he was the son of Ora and Mabel Holmes Haines.
He was a farmer and also worked for the Iowa State Liquor Commission for 22 years.
He was married twice. On Feb. 5, 1931 he married Emily Clampitt in Osceola. He married his second wife, Ethel Miner, in Winterset on Nov. 23, 1963.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ethel; three sons, Donald and John Haines of Winterset and Jerry Haines of Ames; three step-sons; a daughter Shirley Letz of Eldora; two step-daughters; a brother, Maurice Haines of Winterset; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rev. David Livingston officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery.
