Nelson Read, Winterset

Nelson Read, 90, of Winterset, died of internal hemorrhaging Nov. 6, 1997 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Funeral services were Nov. 10 at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. The Rev. Bill Branson officiated the service and burial followed at the Winterset Cemetery.

He was born in Madison County on Sept. 29, 1907 to Asahel and Mary (Jones) Read. On Oct 21, 1930, he married Addie Gwendola Dale in Peru. He was a farmer and carpenter, as well as a lifetime resident of Madison County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; four brothers; and one sister.

Surviving relatives include his wife of Winterset; five sons, Jerald Read of St. Charles, Donald Read and wife Anna of St. Charles, Clifford Read and wife Glennys of Tipton, Paul Read and wife Myrna of Maryville, Mo.. Kenneth Read and wife Melissa of Des Moines; one sister, Katherine Young of Winterset; 30 grandchiildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

NELSON REED

Nelson Reed, 90, of Winterset died of an internal hemorrhage Thursday at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with burial at Winterset Cemetery.

Mr. Reed was born in Madison County and lived in the area all his life. He was a retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife, Addie; five sons, Jerald and Donald, both of St. Charles, Clifford of Tipton, Kenneth of Des Moines and Paul of Maryville, Mo.; a sister, Katherine Young of Winterset; 30 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
