Roberta Padilla, Earlham

Roberta “Bertie” Jane Padilla, 77, of Earlham died July 8, 2003, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Memorial services were held Saturday, July 12, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor George Thurman officiating. A private inurnment of the cremains was at Wiscotta Cemetery at Redfield.

Bertie Padilla was born June 6, 1926, to John S. and Bethel L. (McKinney) Baker of Redfield. She was a graduate of Redfield High School and American Institute of Business in Des Moines. In 1949, she married Jack Padilla. Bertie worked as an accountant for the Duff Company for many years, as well as at the Peer, Nelson and Braland Law Firm. She was a member of the Earlham United Methodist church where she served as secretary/treasurer for several years. She also received the 1982 Community Citizen Appreciation Award given by the Earlham Community School District student body for her support.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Karen Rhoten.

She is survived by three sons, Steve Padilla of Council Bluffs, Frank Padilla of Palisade, Neb., and Philip Padilla of Van Meter; three sisters, Kate Simpson of Lakeport, Calif., Pat Parry of Lemoore, Calif., and Charlotte Jackson of Redfield; a brother, John Baker Jr. of Redfield; and five grandchildren.
