BETTY W. JOHNSON, Winterset

Services for Betty W. Johnson, 58, Winterset, who died March 18, 1984, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, of cancer, were held Tuesday, March 20 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Zanker officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Des Moines, Dec. 9, 1925, she was the daughter of Floyd and Nellie Below Wallace. She attended Des Moines schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1944.

She worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone, leaving the company in 1955, two years after her marriage to Larry Leaverton of Des Moines. The couple had a daughter, Mary Ann.

On Dec. 9, 1965, she was married to Clarence E. Johnson of Winterset.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of two former telephone company employee groups, a former business sorority group, the First Christian Church, Republican Women of Madison County, and the Tri-L Club. As a member of the latter group, she was active in planning and participating in bus tours associated with the Covered Bridge Festival. She also worked with the WIRE project.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Mary Ann Green of Des Moines, a sister, Bethel Doolittle of Aurora, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
