Clyde Willis Hendricks, 59, of Winterset, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 1978, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was road crew foreman for the Madison County Secondary Road Department for 30 years.
A U.S. Army veteran of the Second World War, from 1940 to 1945, Mr. Hendricks participated in the North African and Sicilian campaigns. He was past commander of the Winterset Veterans of Foreign Wars, the first commander of the local Post 8142 Honor Guard and a member of the Madison County Sportsmen's Club. Mr. Hendricks was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Winterset.
He was born December 26, 1918, in Madison County, the son of Milo C. and Josie Brittain Hendricks. His marriage to Velma Louise Hern took place November 17, 1945 in Winterset. She survives her husband.
Also surviving are two sons, Clyde Willis, Jr. of Marion, Iowa and Leon Ralph of Winterset, three grandchildren and four sister, Mable Parker, Pauline Davis, Mary Tyer and Shirley Hulbert, all of Winterset.
Mr. Hendricks was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. from the First Christian Church of Winterset with burial at the Winterset Cemetery. Rev. David Livingston officiated.
