Suddenly, at her home in Winterset, on the morning of Monday, November 4th, 1901, Mrs. J. P. French, aged 68 years, eleven months and two days.
The subject of this notice was born in Knox county, Illinois, December 2, 1832, was married to J. P. French Dec. 11, 1853, moved to Jasper county, Iowa in 1870 and to her home in Winterset in 1896. Her maiden name was Rachel McKee. She was one of a family of ten sisters and three brothers. She was the mother of one daughter and six sons, all of whom with her husband are living and were permitted to be present at the last rites, the six sons performing the last sad service for their mother by bearing her sleeping body out to burial.
Her life was one of quiet, loving, faithful service. the final call was sudden but not unexpected to her, and her end was peace. "The memory of the just is blessed." The funeral was held from the home, Thursday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. the services being conducted by Dr. English of the M. E. church and Rev. J. H. White of the U. P. church.
