Queen Songer, Winterset

Queen Melivina Songer, 96, of Winterset died Oct. 13, 2004, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 18, at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset with Pastor Bobb Barrick officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Queen Songer was born April 6, 1908, to Thomas Jefferson and Katie (McReynolds) Boone of Woodbine. On Nov. 9, 1927, she was united in marriage to W. C. Songer in Huron, S.D. Queen, a homemaker, had been a resident of Winterset since 1950. She did volunteer work at West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Harold and LeRoy Songer; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two sons, Everett Songer of Bouton and Lyle Songer of Escondido, Calif.; three daughters, Marilyn Bishop of Lamar, Colo., Shirley McMahan of Loveland, Colo., and Vera Mur of Urbandale; and 22 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Middle River Hospice.
