John K. Witherow died at his home in Union township Tuesday night, April 6, 1959. Death resulted from a heart attack, apparently induced by the exertion of fighting a field fire on his farm that evening.
Mr. Witherow was 65 years of age, and was a life-long resident of Madison county. He was born in this county Nov. 13, 1893, a son of John and Karoline Baur Witherow.
He served in the United States armed forces during World War I, and was a member of the V.F.W. post at Winterset and the World War I Veterans organization.
Most of his life was spent farming in Madison county. For the past seven years he had been employed at the Solar plant in Des Moines.
Mr. Witherow was married June 17, 1931, at Council Bluffs, to Marguerite Watson, who survives him. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Clyde Guye of Van Meter. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter.
He was affiliated with the United Brethren church, also attending the Methodist church in Winterset. He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Van Meter.
Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John C. Porath. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery, with military services at the Graveside.
