Wednesday, November 23, 1955SARAH E. HOWELL Dies at 80 years
Mrs. Sarah E. Howell, member of a prominent family in Madison county, died at a nursing home here Saturday Nov. 19, 1955, after an extended period of failing health. She was 80 years of age.
Mrs. Howell had been a resident of the West Star community in Douglas township for 55 years and ws a member of the West Star Methodist church during all those years.
She was born near Patterson on Nov. 10, 1875. She was the former Sarah Elizabeth Lovelace. On Jan. 30, 1895, she was married to Charles E. Howell. They spent the first five years of their marriage near Patterson, then moved to the West Star community in 1901.
Her husband died in 1922. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Bellman and Mrs. Lloyd Hoeness of Winterset; four sons, Garland, Clarence and Aaron Howell, all of Winterset and Orville Howell of Hancock; 17 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Mardice Breakenridge, and a granddaughter, Marjorie Bellman preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Winterset Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Byron Haines, pastor of the West Star Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
