LLOYD MCCORKLE DIED TUESDAY

Widely-Known Contractor and Builder Was 77 Years of Age.

Lloyd E. McCorkle, retired Winterset contractor, died Tuesday Oct. 25, at a Des Moines hospital. He was 77 years of age, and had been in poor health for several months.

Mr. McCorkle was widely known throughout Iowa as a contractor and builder. He was the contractor in charge of construction of Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset, and built power plants, churches and other public buildings in many communities of the state.

He was active in the Winterset Rotary club and other community affairs. He was an avid sportsman and outdoors' man, having hunted big game throughout the west, including an expedition in recent years to Alaska.

Mr. McCOrkle was born in Madison county Dec. 15, 1882, a son of Merritt and Joann Mekenson McCorkle. His early life was spent in farming, before he turned to building. He lived in Black Hawk county for 25 years, then in DeSoto for some time before moving to Winterset.

He was married Sept. 5, 1906 to Ada Easter, who survives him. He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Wenger of Owatonna, Minn.; two sons, Paul H. McCorkle of Sac City and Hugh J. McCorkle of DeKalb, Ill.; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Walter McCorkle of Winterset and Calvin McCorkle of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Hoeness of Winterset.

He was a member of the Winterset Methodist church, where funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m., in charge of the pastor, the Rev. John C. Porath. Burial will be made in Stringtown cemetery.

The family requests no flowers, but contributions may be made to the church memorial fund.
