A farmer and employee of the Brown Line Trucking company for many years, James Harrison Martin, died Sunday, June 4, 1978, at Memorial Hospital. He was 88 years old. Mr. Martin was born January 17, 1889, at St. Charles, the son of James Grant and Mary Janette Chadd Martin.
His marriage to Susan Marion Carter took place September 22, 1912 in Conger, Iowa. She preceded him in death on November 15. 1976.
James Martin was a lifetime resident of Madison County, an active member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Hall of Mesa, Arizona; a son, Dyle F. Martin of Clear Lake, Iowa; two brothers, Charles of Winterset and Robert of Patterson; three sisters, Anna Brown and Lucille Vannatta of Winterset and Mae Linn of Des Moines; and four grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents and a son, James Deane Martin, killed in the service during World War II.
Funeral services for J. H. Martin were conducted Wednesday, June 7, at 10 a.m. from Collins Funeral Home with burial at Winterset Cemetery. Dr. Paul Hann, First United Methodist Church of Winterset officiating.
