Gertrude V. Shoemaker, Winterset

Services for Gertrude V. Shoemaker, 76, Winterset, who died Sept. 21 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital, were held Monday, Sept. 24 at the Collins Funeral Home with the Rev. Byron Ayres officiating. Burial was at the Winterset cemetery.

Born in Madison County on Feb. 7, 1906, she was the daughter of William John and Sadie Elizabeth Ford Smith. She taught in the rural schools and worked at the hospital and Multi-Purpose Center. On April 11, 1936 in Winterset, she was married to Glenn Shoemaker, who later served as a Madison County supervisor.

Mrs. Shoemaker was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was a graduate of Winterset High School in 1926 and a member of the United Methodist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Golden Years Club and the Kitchen Band.

Survivors include a son, Jim, of Kansas City; sisters, Laura Black and Helen Wright, both of Winterset; two grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and a sister.
