Calvin Duff of Winterset Dies

Funeral Services Held This Monday at Greenfield Church

Calvin Duff of Winterset died Friday, Feb. 26, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leone Farwell of this community. He was 83 years of age.

Mr. Duff was born May 22, 1881, at Adair, a son of James and Amanda Duff. His active life was spent in farming. He was a member of the Methodist church.

He was married March 25, 1903 to Cora Marshall of Adair. She preceded him in death in 1955. Also preceding him in death were two daughters, Della and Florence, in infancy, and a son, Leland Duff, in 1963.

He was married again on June 1, 1958, to Hannah Cox, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Farwell of Winterset, Mrs. Hattie Fuller of Des Moines, Mrs. Belle Dickey of Orient, and Mrs. Elowene Cannon of Mt. Ayr; four sons, Jim Duff of Greenfield, Roy Duff of Peru, Donald Duff of Wausau, Wisc., and Jack Duff of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Ida Stoner of Atlantic; three stepchildren; 31 grandchildren; and 55 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Greenfield Methodist church, with the Rev. John C. Porath of Winterset officiating. Burial was made in the Adair cemetery.

Calvin Duff Rites Are Held Monday

Funeral services for Calvin Duff, 83, pioneer resident of Prussia township who passed away Friday, Feb. 26 at Winterset were held in the Greenfield Methodist Church at two o’clock Monday afternoon, March 1, with Rev. John Porath officiating.

Music was provided for the service by Miss Kathleen Duff, organist, and Mrs. Darlene Trobridge and Mrs. Della Earhart were the singers.

Survivors include his wife Hannah, of Winterset; eight children: Mrs. Leone Farwell and Jack Duff, both of Winterset; Jim Duff of Greenfield; Mrs. John Fuller of Des Moines; Mrs. Lloyd Dickey of Orient; Roy Duff of Peru; Donald of Wausau, Wisc.; and Mrs. Bernard Cannon of Mount Ayr. Surviving also are 31 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren.

Calvin Duff, son of James and Amanda Duff, was born on May 22, 1881, at Adair, Iowa, and passed away Feb. 26, 1965, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Leone Farwell in Winterset, at the age of 83 years, nine months, and four days.

His early life was spent on a farm in Adair County. On March 25, 1903, he was united in marriage to Cora Marshall of Adair, Iowa. To this union were born 11 children.

Surviving him are Leone Farwell, Roy and Jack Duff of Winterset, Jim Duff of Greenfield, Hattie Fuller of Des Moines, Belle Dickey of Orient, Donald Duff of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Elowene Cannon of Mt. Ayr, also a sister, Ida Stoner, of Atlantic, Iowa.

Two daughters, Della and Florence, preceded him in death as infants, his wife Cora in Feb. of 1955, and a son Leland two years ago.

On June 1, 1958, he was united in marriage to Hannah Cox of Winterset, and since that time she has made a home for him in Winterset, and has stood by faithfully through several illnesses. She and her three children and their families by a former marriage survive and mourn his death. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.
