Couple Die in House Fire in Winterset (AP)

A rural Winterset couple died in a fire that engulfed their farm home Saturday.

The bodies of Earnest and Michelle Eslinger were found in a bedroom of the home near Winterset, the Madison County Sheriff's Department said.

Officers said the Winterset Fire Department found the house engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 4 a.m.

Twin sons, age 17, awoke to flames and smoke and were unable to get to the bedroom, where the parents were located, due to heavy smoke and flames, officers said.

Sheriff's officers said autopsies were being performed and the state fire marshal, Winterset Fire Department and Madison County officers were continuing their investigation.
