S. J. Gilpin, Winterset, of the firm of Gilpin & Gilpin, attorneys; born in Butler county, Ohio, in 1838; removed to Hanover county, Ind., where he was educated; came to this county in 1868, and was admitted to the bar; he enlisted in the 3d Indiana Cav. during the war, and served until near the close; he married Mrs. Maria L. Evans December 12, 1873; Mrs. Gilpin has one daughter by previous marriage: Mary Evans.
