S. H. Springer, Winterset, born in Wayne county, Indiana, in 1842, and came to Iowa in 1847, and to this county in 1874; was for some years connected with the Madisonian as one of the editors and proprietors; he enlisted in the late war in the 4th Iowa Infantry and was discharged on account of disability; he married Miss Sarah J. Porter in 1862; she was born in Ohio; has seven children: Clifton, Elba, Etta, William, Leroy, Herman and Lizzie.
