James Monaghan, Douglas twp., farmer and stock-raiser, Sec. 11; P.O. Winterset; was born in Scotland in 1824, and came to America in 1854; he learned the trade of blacksmithing, and for many years followed this occupation, and at one time he was the only blacksmith in Winterset; he owns 466 acres of land; has held school offices; he married Miss Margaret Monaghan in 1854; she was born in Ireland; they have seven children: Hugh, Mary Ann, John, James, Maggie, Thomas and William; they lost one daughter: Elizabeth.
