D. Howell, Winterset, blacksmith; born in Ohio in 1834, and came to this county in 1855; he has worked at his trade twenty-seven years; he has held offices of city alderman and town trustee; he enlisted in the 36th Iowa Inf. and served three years; he married Miss M. J. Snavely in 1859; she was born in Pennsylvania; has two children: Herschel V. E. and Charles C.; lost two (children).
