Samuel J. Gilpin, Winterset, of the firm of Gilpin & Gilpin, attorneys; was born in Butler county, Ohio, in 1838; removed to Hanover county, Indiana where he was educated; came to this county in 1868, and was admitted to the bar; he enlisted in the 3rd Indiana Cav. During the war, and served until the near the close; he married Mrs. Maria L. Evans December 12, 1873; Mrs. Gilpin has one daughter by a previous marriage: Mary Evans.
