William Deardorff, Ohio twp., farmer, Sec. 18; P.O. Ohio; was born in Henry county, Iowa, in the year 1843, December 20; his parents came to Iowa in about 1839; they moved to Mahaska county when he was about five years old and was raised there; August 13, 1862, he enlisted in company B, 40th Iowa Infantry, and was mustered out at Davenport August 16, 1865; was in the following engagements: Saline River, Ark., Siege of Vicksburg, Prairie De Ann, and Camden, Ark.; after his return he married Miss Emma Simmons, October 3, 1873, a native of Green county, Ohio; they have two daughters: Nora I., born July 9, 1874, Hallie Z., born October 17, 1877, has farm of 105 acres.
