Daniel Hiskey Eyerly was born February 28, 1833 near Hagerstown, Maryland to Samuel Minsker Eyerly and Regina Hiskey Eyerly. The Eyerlys moved first to Richland County, Ohio, and then, in 1846, to Washington County, Iowa. They made the trip from Cincinnati to Keokuk by riverboat. At an early age, Daniel often signed his name "Daniel Harrison Eyerly" after President Harrison but his middle name was Hiskey, named after his mother's family.

On February 25, 1858, Daniel married Rebecca Easter who was born on February 7, 1834 at Smithville, Fayette, Pennsylvania. To this union were born 5 children; Ellen Regina who died as an infant; Oliver Hamblin who married Alice A. Trent; Eva May who married Reuben Peter Wissler; Nannie Lucinda, who married Alfred Snyder Young; and Wilmer Ray who married Lizzie Fraker.

In 1880 through the 1890s, the Eyerlys lived in Douglas Township, Madison County, Iowa. Eventually, they moved to Hershey, Nebraska where Daniel managed a store and where they remained for the rest of their lives. Daniel died at Hershey on November 29, 1919.

Rebecca grew up in Fayette County, Pennsylvania and moved with her parents to Washington County, Iowa in the mid 1850s. There, she met and married Daniel and they farmed in Washington County before moving to Madison County. Rebecca’s parents were both born in Pennsylvania. At the time of her death on November 1, 1931, Rebecca was thought to be the oldest resident of Lincoln county. Rebecca and Daniel were affiliated with the Hershey Methodist Church and both are buried in the O’Fallon cemetery located near Hershey.
