Godfrey Myers

MYERS, SCHNELLBACHER

Godfrey Myers was born in Germany in 1788. He and his wife Frederica migrated to America from Germany in 1841, arriving in the Port of New York on 23 July from Bremen on the barque Caroline. The Myers had at least two known children; a son listed as G. Myers on the ship’s passenger list, and a daughter, Frederica D. who married John Schnellbacher, an early Webster Township settler. The Myers first settled in Ross County, Ohio where they farmed. After selling their land in Springfield Township, Ross County, in August 1859 they moved to Webster Township, Madison County, Iowa, where they lived on a farm adjacent to that of Peter and Christina Schnellbacher, their son-in-law’s parents. It appears that Godfrey died before 1870 as by then, Frederica was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Frederica and John Schnellbacher. She died March 26, 1872 at age 75 and is buried in the Welty Cemetery. Godfrey is probably also buried there, but there is no gravestone for him - nor any record of his death.
