Was Born in Norway and Came to Rock Rapids in Year 1895.Funeral services were held here Sunday for Mrs. Julia Gilbertson Hanson, resident of Rock Rapids for many years, who died at her home here Friday following an illness of short duration. Following the services which were held in the Methodist church, the remains were taken to Riverview cemetery for interment.
Julia Gilbertson was born at Geovick Walders, Norway, on July 27, 1862, and at the time of her death, was 68 years of age. She was united in marriage with Knute Hanson, on June 20, 1883, and six years later came with him to the United States, where they first made their home at Beaver Creek, Minn. In 1895 they came to Rock Rapids where the family home has been made ever since. On December 15, Mrs. Hanson underwent surgical treatment, calculated to return her to normal health, and apparently was recovering from the effects of that operation, when she suffered a heart attack from which she died two weeks later. Mr. Hanson preceded her in death by six years.
Mrs. Hanson was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church and was active in its work.

Hanson, Ames, Alfred Hanson, Carroll, Olaf Hanson, Orient, S. D. and Mrs. Clara Anderson, Fargo, N. D. One sister still lives, Mrs. Mary Wilcox, of Saskatchewan, Canada. All of the children were here for the funeral. (Source: Lyon County Reporter, Rock Rapids, IA, Thurs., January 22, 1931, pg. 2)
