Gilbert Medalen, 87, of 607 Eighth St. died Monday at his home after a long illness.

He was born June 17, 1897, in Inwod, Iowa, and married Lottie Anderson Feb. 26, 1938 in Inwood. They moved to Iowa City in 1950 and he was employed by the University of Iowa maintenance department. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Lou Ann Myers of Iowa City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley of Inwood and Lowell of Tucson, Ariz.; and a sister, Marie Medalen of Inwood.

Services: 10:30 a.m. today at Beckman-Callahan’s, where friends may call. Burial: Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Inwood.
