April 19, 1925 - December 26, 2016
Rock Rapids, Iowa - Pete Reck, age 91 of Rock Rapids, died Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids.
Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, December 30th at Bethel Reformed Church, rural Little Rock, IA, with burial to follow at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 9:00 AM until the hour of the service at Bethel Reformed Church.
Peter Arnold Reck was born April 19, 1925 at his family’s home place in Midland Township, Lyon County, Iowa, the son of Jerry and Dea (Willms) Reck. He was raised near the Iowa/Minnesota boarder and attended country school through 8th grade. He remained living and working for the family farm.
He was united in marriage to Winifred Cornelia Stubbe at Bethel Reformed Church near Little Rock, IA and Ellsworth, MN. Pete and Winnie farmed for many years together and raised a son, Norman. Pete crop farmed, raised Hereford cattle, hogs and chickens.
Pete was a member of Bethel Reformed Church, active as a Sunday School Officer, Deacon and Elder. He enjoyed playing church league and town league softball in his earlier years. He also enjoyed fishing and bowling league in Ellsworth, MN. In September of 2005 Pete and Winnie moved to Rock Rapids, IA.
On April 28, 2007, Pete’s wife Winnie died after 60 years of marriage. Pete remained living in their home in Rock Rapids until he had hip surgery and entered Rock Rapids Health Care Centre in June of 2016. He remained there until his death this past Monday, December 26, 2016.
He is survived by his son, Norman (wife Diane) Reck of Rock Rapids, IA; two grandchildren, Dustin (wife Kayla) Reck and their daughter, Janessa Kay Reck all of Rock Rapids, IA and Briana (husband Justin) Van Noort of Rock Valley, IA; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Dea Reck; his loving wife, Winifred Reck; and a beloved sister, Tena (husband Henry) Klosterboer.
