Rock Rapids, Iowa -- Ramona Grave, age 82, of Rock Rapids, and formerly of Melvin, Iowa died Monday, December 5, 2016 at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, December 8th at Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA, with burial following at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, IA.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 7th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George, IA.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.

Ramona Jean Grave was born November 8, 1934 in George, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Anna (Ackerman) Beek. She was raised in the Melvin and George area and attended country school. She graduated from George High School in 1953.

On January 8, 1954 she married David Grave in George, IA. They were blessed with four children. Ramona and David later divorced. She raised her children and worked various jobs before starting her career with the U.S. Postal Service. She later became Postmaster in Melvin, IA. She retired at the age of 61 after 21 years of service. She moved to her home in Rock Rapids, IA in 2003 and remained there until losing her home in the flood of 2014. She moved to Rosewood Heights for a short while until her health required her to enter Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.

She was a past member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and participated in Bowling League in her younger years. She enjoyed quilting, collecting stamps, coins, and dolls. She also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Most of all she enjoyed her family, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her four children, Linda Honrath of Larchwood, IA, Lance (Linda) Grave of Spencer, IA, Renae (Mark) McCarty of Rock Rapids, IA and Lisa (Mark) Pollan of Omaha, NE; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Beek of California; sister, Joanne (Don) Wickenhagen of Hospers, IA; and many other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Beek; four sisters, twin infants, Shirley Schaa and Myrna Beek; two brothers, Arlen “Joe” Beek and Art “Charlie” Beek; a granddaughter, Katie Anderson; and two sons-in-law, Francis Honrath and Dale Popkes.
