Inwood, Iowa -- Arie Blom, 87, of rural Inwood, Iowa, died Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 23, at 1:30 p.m. at Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley, Iowa with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be held Tuesday, November 22, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Arie Blom was born March 22, 1929, near Pella, Iowa, son of Cornelius and Maria (Van Dorp) Blom. Arie proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marines Corp from September 1951 to September 1953, during the Korean conflict.

He was united in marriage with Clazina Fluit on November 30, 1954, at Inwood, Iowa. Together they lived and farmed west of Inwood. Clazina died February 28, 2016. Arie was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Arie is survived by his 9 children, Cornelius (Bev) Blom of Corsica, South Dakota, Roberta (Don) Roberts of Sioux Falls, Bill (Tena) Blom of Doon, Iowa, Marilyn (Mike) Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, Iowa, Shirley (Dick) Spaans of Armour, South Dakota, Laura (Mark) Bleeker of Jenison, Michigan, Susan (Dan) Kamp of Hawarden, Iowa, Don (Heather) Blom of Inwood, and Tom Blom of Inwood; 34 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; brother, Henry Blom of Rock Valley; brother-in-law, Gerrit Vande Hoef of Sioux Center, Iowa; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Blom of Corsica and Tillie Blom of Rock Valley.

Arie was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Maria Blom; wife, Clazina Blom; son, Allen Blom; infant brother, Jake Blom; teenage brother, John Blom; brothers, Jake, Jim, Cornie, and John Blom; and sisters, Marie Schmidt, Jennie Kramer, and Nellie Vande Hoef.
