Ireton, Iowa ~ Clarence “Click” Anema, 84, died suddenly on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Mica Hill Estates in Hawarden, Iowa, where he had lived for the last 10 months.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 17th at the Ireton Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, Iowa with Rev. Clifford Hoekstra officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton with military rites conducted by the Bertram American Legion Post #276 of Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday, with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church. The Porter Funeral Home of Ireton is assisting the family. Clarence “Click” Anema was born March 12, 1932 on a farm near Craig, Iowa to Paul and Kathryn (Van Schepen) Anema. He was the youngest of 6 children.

He attended country school until he was 7. The family then moved to Ireton where he attended the Ireton Christian School through the 8th grade. Click graduated from the Ireton High School in 1950. He was actively involved in baseball, basketball, and football. He enjoyed telling stories of his time in high school while playing sports and of being selected as the 1st homecoming king.

After high school, he worked with his brother, Andy on his farm and also in the Ireton Locker doing country butchering. The Korean War broke out and Click was drafted into the Army in 1953. He served in Germany as a gunnery sergeant and was discharged in May of 1955.

On October 5, 1955, Click married Eileen Hoekstra of Doon, Iowa. Together they had five children. They enjoyed almost 50 years together until Eileen passed away in September of 2004.

In March of 1956, Click bought the Ireton Locker and was a Main Street fixture for 44 years.

He was an active member of the Ireton American Legion Bertram Post #276 for 60 plus years and as a Sergeant of Arms for a majority of those years. He was also very involved with the community of Ireton, serving on various boards and committees. He was a lifelong member of the Ireton Christian Reformed Church, serving in various positions.

Click enjoyed fishing, gardening, and following his grandkids in their activities, as well as being a sports and history enthusiast.

He is survived by his five children: Nancy (Bob) Sanderson of Hawarden, Iowa, Doug (Trish) Anema of Ireton, Barbara (Jack) Noteboom of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Laura (Bob) Jasper of Ireton, and Tam (Curt) Scott of Powell, Wyoming; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Josie Mulder of Pella, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Hoekstra of Doon, Iowa.

Click was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eileen; three brothers; a sister; five brothers-in-law; and five sisters-in-law.
