Larchwood, Iowa -- Matt H. Snyder, age 93, formerly of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Larchwood, Iowa, passed away on July 3, 2016, at the home of a son in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Larchwood, with Father Bruce Lawler as celebrant. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, IowaA.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 10th from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Larchwood. There will be a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Matt was born on August 14, 1922 to Frank and Nellie (Janssen) Snyders of Larchwood, Iowa. He was the 5th of ten children. He graduated in 1940 from St. Mary’s HS. He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II and was awarded six bronze stars for air offensive campaigns in Europe.

After the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Mavis McGuire, at Saint Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls. To this marriage of 66 years were born five children. He played baseball with his brothers and cousins for the Larchwood town team. He was referred to affectionately as “Bud” by family and friends. Matt worked for John Morrell, Feeders Supply Company, and Kay Dee Veterinary Supplies.

He built and sold several homes in Sioux Falls. He and his wife were long time members of Christ the King Parish. They retired in 1985 and spent six months each year in AZ. He had good health throughout his life and resided with his sons and families after his wife, Mavis, died in 2012.

Grateful for having shared his life are children of his daughter, Susan and her husband Charles T. Reinders: Jill Blankenship and husband, Brett of Ft. Worth, Texas and great granddaughter, Ella; Todd Reinders and wife, Karina, and great grandson, Tobin of Flower Mound, Texas; three sons: Lee Snyder and his wife, Susan, and their children, Jessica and Matt of Glenwood Springs, CO; Frank Snyder and his wife, Michelle, and their children, Kelli, Christian, and Hayden of Aberdeen, SD; Tom Snyder and his wife, Sharon, and their children, Alyssa, Cassie, and Zach of Aberdeen, SD; his sisters, Rita Cain and Monica Weber of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Leah (Bubs) Hunter of Des Moines, IA, brother-in-law, Don Roemen of Larchwood, along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Mavis McGuire Snyder; daughters: Janis and Sue (Reinders) and son-in-law, Chuck Reinders; parents, Frank and Nellie Snyders; brothers: Joe Snyders, Franz Snyders, Paul Snyders, sisters: Mary Roemen-Kramer-Honrath, Irene Daniels, Julie Roemen, Helen Mitchell-Dains, in-laws: Naomi Snyders, Elsie Snyders, Joan Snyders, Joe Roemen, Urban Kramer, Leo Honrath, Joe Daniels, Steve Cain, Jack Mitchell, Marv Dains, John Weber; Lois Boyle, and JoAnn Hjelle.
