In Memoriam of Theresa Ripperda

Death: October 4, 2016

Larchwood, Iowa - Theresa Roemen Ripperda, age 77 of Larchwood, passed away on Tuesday, October 4th 2016 at Dougherty Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Friday, Oct. 7th at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, Iowa, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 6th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. There will also be a 7:00 PM Vigil service that evening at the church.

Theresa was born September 29, 1939 in Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Snyders) Roemen. She grew up in Larchwood, Iowa, on the family farm. Theresa attended St. Mary’s School. Theresa was a beauty and caught the eye of Gerald Ripperda, the boy next door. She married her true love on March 2, 1957. They were blessed with nine children, Deb, Donna, Annie, Caroline, Laura, Suzie, Thomas, Mary, and Jay. These children meant the world to her.

She enjoyed listening to many band and vocal concerts her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. She loved to play cards and spent many an evening playing games with friends and family. Christmas Eve was always a special time with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids all joined together sharing lots of joy and laughter.

Jerry and Theresa enjoyed traveling making a trip to Alaska and Hawaii, and many other places in between. She will be remembered as a woman of great faith which she passed on to her children. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Parish in Larchwood.

She is survived by her children, Deb (Rex) David of Larchwood; Donna (Bill) Doherty of Inwood; Annie (Scott) Kruse; Caroline (Scott) Kerkvliet; Laura (Randy) Simons; Suzie (Tim) Viereck; Mary (Terry) Viereck and Jay (Amy) Ripperda all of Larchwood; along with twenty-nine grandchildren; and twenty-eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Roemen and Leonard (Nancy) Roemen, both of Larchwood; two sisters, Marilyn (Larry) Schlotfeldt of West Bend, WI and Karen (Tom) Breuer of Sioux Falls, SD; and her brother and sister in laws; Marlene Doherty, Don (Janet) Ripperda, Rosemary (Don) Bruggeman, John (Judy) Ripperda, Ray (Linda) Ripperda, Mark (Deb) Ripperda and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of fifty years, Jerry Ripperda; and her infant son, Thomas Jude.
