West Des Moines, Iowa -- Jeanene C. Jansma, 72, of West Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Hull, Iowa, died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after a brief illness. Funeral service will be Monday, June 6, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hull Protestant Reformed Church with Rev. Joshua Engelsma officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery of Hull. Visitation with the family present will be Sunday, June 5, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Memorials may be given to Hope Haven and condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Jeanene was born June 12, 1943 in Doon, Iowa, to Peter and Anna (Vander Kooi) Jansma. She was raised in Hull and graduated from Hull Western Christian High School. She began working for Northwestern Bell and moved to West Des Moines in 1980 with the telephone company’s transition to AT&T. She retired after 39 years of service. Jeanene loved gardening and collecting cardinals.

Jeanene is survived by two brothers, Thelmar Jansma of Dell Rapids, South Dakota and Andrew (Cindy) Jansma of Primghar, Iowa. Jeanene loved her nieces and nephews - Sandy Staskywicz and children Cody, Cole and Chloe of Windsor Heights, Iowa, Patty (Ed) Durand and children, Luke and Maleah of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Tom Jansma of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Bill Jansma of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Jean K. Jansma of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wilmar B. Jansma, and sister-in-law Martha Jansma.
