Eva Darleen (Schmidt) Stubbe was born February 27, 1928, southeast of George to Harvey and Edith (Bruns) Schmidt. She was raised on the farm and attended Wheeler # 7 School (5 miles south of George) and later George High School, graduating in 1945.

After graduation she worked in the office of Siebring Mfg. and later at J. A. Jensen & Co. She was united in marriage to Herman J. Stubbe on August 10, 1948, at the E. U. B. church in George. They resided in George until 1950, after which they moved to a farm 3 miles north of Matlock where they farmed for 14 years. Their family increased with the birth of their two sons, Jim and Jack. They later moved to the home place of her birth where they farmed for another 14 years.

In the fall of 1967, Eva decided to further her education and attended night classes at the “new” community college in Sheldon (now known as NCC). It was a recommendation from her instructor that led to her hiring as a secretary in Adult Education and later in Administration. While working at NCC, she enrolled in various evening college courses to further her education.

In 1976 they moved to Sheldon and in 1979 moved to the home they built in George. She continued working at NCC until she retired in July 1990.

She was always active in church work, teaching Sunday School as well as holding many offices. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church at George. She was also a member of the George Women’s Club.

Survivors include her husband, Herman (“Jr.”); two sons and their wives, Jim and Nicky Stubbe of Sioux Falls, Jack and Alethea Stubbe of George; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one brother, Harvey J. Schmidt and wife Joan of Sioux Falls, SD; two nieces; and one nephew.
