December 26, 1933 - April 8, 2016

George, Iowa - Carol Getting, age 82, of George, passed away Friday, April 8, 2016 at Country View Manor in Sibley, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday April 12, 2016 at Lyon County First Presbyterian Church of George, Iowa, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George, Iowa.

Carol Getting was born December 26, 1933 in Little Rock, IA to William and Henrietta (Rosenboom) Bothof. She was the second youngest of seven girls. After losing their father at a young age, the family moved to Sheldon. She attended school in Sheldon, IA and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1952 after which she worked for the phone company in Sheldon for many years before meeting Derwood Getting. Carol and Derwood shared a love of bowling which is how they met. On November 22, 1956, they were united in marriage at the First Reformed Church parsonage in Matlock. The couple made their home on a farm near Matlock where they enjoyed 58 years of marriage and raised their four children.

Carol enjoyed traveling with her husband and family including trips to northern Minnesota and Canada where the family fished along with trips to national parks and seeing family around the country. She enjoyed expressing her creativity through outlets such as sewing, painting, cooking and gardening. She took pride in being a stay at home mom and grandma on the farm delivering many meals to the field throughout the years along with canning much of the produce from her own garden. Carol was a member of the First Reformed Church of Matlock until its closing when her and Derwood then became members of the Lyon County First Presbyterian Church. She stayed involved by teaching Sunday school and summer bible school and by helping with the annual Christmas program. She loved to be around her family especially during the holidays. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were all very special to her. She will be remembered and greatly missed as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children, Greg and his wife Laura Getting of Matlock, IA , David Getting of Matlock, IA, Lora and her husband Kurt Prange of Brandon, SD; Steve and his wife Kelli Getting of Mesa, AZ; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Marguerite Bothof of Sibley, IA, Pauline Muller of Spencer, IA, Dorothy and her husband Wilfred Kooiker of Sheldon, IA, and Idelle and her husband Don Mastbergen of Sheldon, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Derwood Getting; 2 sisters, Martha Kruse, and Harriet Bothof; 2 brothers-in-law George Muller and Henry Kruse.
