OBITUARY--

IRETON, IOWA - Martin K. Prins, 85, of Ireton, died suddenly on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital in Hawarden, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church in Ireton with Rev. Doug Van Aartsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton with military honors conducted by the Bertram American Legion Post 276 of Ireton.

Martin was born on June 20, 1930, in Sioux Center, Iowa the son of John & Tracy (Remmerde) Prins. He attended rural schools. He married Wilmina Gerritsen on December 28, 1950. Very shortly after, he was drafted into the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. Martin & Wilmina lived near Rock Valley and Inwood, Iowa and Fairview, South Dakota. They also lived in Wisconsin prior to moving to Ireton in May 1968. Martin was employed at the Ireton Coop Lumber Yard for 25 years.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church where he served as a deacon and elder and was active in adult Sunday school. He enjoyed woodworking, puzzles, antique farm machinery, giving rides in his wagon and spending time with his family.

Surviving relatives include his three sons, Ken & Judy of Le Mars, Iowa, Jeff of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Mike & Wendy of Hinton, Iowa; four daughters, Cheryl Prins & Sandy Rehling of Chicago, Illinois, Deb Prins of Norwalk, Iowa, Janet and Bob Hartwig of Polk City, Iowa and Carla & Paul Monroe of Leighton, Iowa; two sisters, Lenore Prins of Sioux Center, Iowa and Rosanna Klarenbeek of Sheldon, Iowa; two brothers, Stan & Linda Prins of Carmel, Iowa and Melvin & Violet Prins of Lakewood, California; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilmina, and his parents, John & Tracy Prins.
