Larchwood Leader
Old Resident Dies

When it was announced early Tuesday morning that Jas. A. Dement had passed away that morning, Larchwood was called upon to mourn the loss of one of it’s oldest residents. Mr. Dement was a sufferer of Kidney and heart trouble. The past two years the disease had gained such a hold upon him that he was compelled to quit work. The last few months were very trying for him and under all this, he bore the burden nicely. After great suffering he passed away early Tuesday morning.

James A. Dement was born at West Union, Ohio, March 30, 1850, and died September 16, 1919, being at the time of his death 69 years, 6 months and 14 days old. When a lad of 5 years the family moved to Illinois. In 1872 the family located in Lyon County. In November, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Izora Dement. The first two years of their married life was spent in Kansas. Since 1887 the family has continued to reside here. To this union seven children were born, George, Anna, May, David, Cora, Charlie and Thomas. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, and all the children but one, Thomas, who was killed in a fall last winter. He is also survived by two sisters: Mrs. Sylter Bottineau, N.D., and Mrs. Wallace of this place and 12 grand-children. His brothers, Alex, Jack and John have all preceded him to the grave.

Funeral services were held from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. Bates, pastor of the M.E. church here at Inwood, being in charge. A large number gathered at the home to pay their last respects to the dead. Burial was made in the local cemetery.

Jas. Dement will be greatly missed by his relatives and also by a large number of friends. Mr. Dement was known to everyone in this vicinity. He was in the dray business when the town was very small and has seen the progress of the community. He had his faults, like the rest of us, and at last he was one of us and we shall miss him.
