Biography--

Sibley, Iowa - Lorraine E. Wiertsema, age 90, of Sibley, died on Thursday, February 04, 2016 at the Country View Manor in Sibley.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the First Reformed Church in Sibley, Iowa, with Reverend Luke Schouten officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, Iowa.

Visitation will be Monday, February 8, with the family present, at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley.

Lorraine Ethel Wiertsema was born on November 12, 1925, in Little Rock, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Tina (Dykhouse) Peters. She grew up in Little Rock, attended school there, and later went on to college at UNI and got her teaching degree. Lorraine married Fritz Rosenboom and when she was thirty-five years old he passed away. In 1968 she married Walter Wiertsema at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Lorraine taught elementary school in Sibley for many years. She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley. Lorraine loved children and being their teacher. Her church family was very dear to her also. She loved her family very much and especially enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Karlene Selken of Spirit Lake, IA; two grandchildren: Keri (Jamie) Jostand of Milford, IA and Kory Selken of Denver, CO; three great grandchildren: Tatum, Akron and Ridge; two siblings: Bob Peters of Williamsburg, IA and Leona Gustafson of Wausa, NE; two sisters-in-law: Thelma Peters and Jennie Peters both of Little Rock, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Tina Peters; first husband, Fritz Rosenboom and second husband Walter Wiertsema; stepson, Gaylon Wiertsema; two brothers: Denton and Russell Peters; sister-in-law, Karen Peters; and an infant sister, Linda Peters.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Sibley-Ocheyedan Elementary Library.
