July 6, 1953 - January 27, 2016

George, Iowa -- Wesley A. Schmith, age 62, of Bethany, Oklahoma, and formerly of George, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 30th at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church rural Hull, Iowa, with Pastor Tim Nappe officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, January 29th from 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Wesley Allen Schmith was born July 6, 1953 in Sioux Center, Iowa, the son of Arthur F. and Amy R. (Techen) Schmith. He was raised on a farm near George and attended country school for several years. He continued his education at George Community Schools and graduated in 1971. After high school he began working at DEMCO in Boyden, Iowa, while living in George and Hull. In 1995 he moved to Minnesota and worked various jobs.

On June 28, 1997 Wesley Schmith was united in marriage to Connie Rae Fischer and in July of 1997 he and Connie moved to Oklahoma City, OK. While living there he worked part time as a delivery person. On July 2, 2012 Wesley’s wife Connie, died after fifteen years of marriage. Wesley remained living in Oklahoma until March of 2015, when he moved back to the home area.

Wesley enjoyed gardening and fishing, & was very proud of what his garden could produce. He also enjoyed attending garage sale and auctions. Most of all, he centered his life around his step-grandchildren, and played an active role with caring for them. He will be remembered as a man with a strong faith, even when his life became more difficult as a result of his failing health.

He is survived by three siblings; Dean (LaDonna) Schmith of Boyden, Iowa, Kenneth (Rosalie) Schmith of Fredericksburg, Iowa, and Lila Hatting of Sibley, Iowa; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Schmith of Hull, Iowa, step-daughter, Sarah Lynn Jurgensen and her children, Aaliyah, Brooklyn, Journey and Jaymison, all of Bethany, OK; mother-in-law, Ora Fischer of George, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Amy Schmith; wife, Connie Rae Schmith; brother, Dale Schmith; and father-in-law, Harm Fischer.
