November 21, 1956 - December 24, 2015

George Drewes, age 59 of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Private family Funeral service will take place Wednesday afternoon, December 30, 2015 at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date.

Public visitation will be Wednesday, December 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present at Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

George William Drewes was born November 21, 1956 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Claus and Gladys (Harder) Drewes. He was raised and received his education in Rock Rapids. He furthered his education at DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago and graduated with an electronic technician certificate.

On August 30, 1982 he was united in marriage to DeAnn Pottebaum in Elko, Nevada. The couple made their home and raised their family in Rock Rapids. George worked for Arrow Manufacturing in Rock Rapids where he did electrical work for remounted ambulances. He was proud of his work but more proud of his kids and grandkids. George loved to bowl and enjoyed teaching kids to bowl as well.

He also enjoyed card tricks, mind puzzles, playing Mafia Wars, watching movies and Mopar muscle cars. His best friend was his dog Jack but George got along with everyone. He was known for his kind smile and warm hugs. He was always able to make a person smile and always willing to help out. This past Thursday, December 24th George passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 59. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, DeAnn Drewes; son, Joshua (Hallee) Drewes and their children, Kameron, Kyanne and Kapri all of Tea, South Dakota; son, Dustin (Jessica) Drewes of Mason, Ohio; daughter, Hannah (Michael) Drewes DiPasquale of Stillwater, Oklahoma; son Jason (Kari) Dirks and their children Victoria, Declan and Aislinn all of George, Pottebaum; and Luke Dirks of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother, David (Janet) Drewes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Claus and Gladys Drewes; sister, Glenda Drewes; and father-in-law, Eugene Pottebaum.
