December 22, 1921 - November 4, 2015

Rock Valley, Iowa -- Alice Niemeyer, 93, of Rock Valley died Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. all at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Rev. Gideon Wamala will be officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery at Inwood, Iowa. Condolences for the family may be left online at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Alice Gertrude Niemeyer was born December 22, 1921 on a farm in rural Inwood, Iowa to Willem and Cornelia (Hollander) Niemeyer. She attended area country schools and would later receive her high school diploma in 1956. While living in Inwood, Alice attended the Christian Reformed Church. She would later move to Rock Valley where Alice worked at Valley Manor doing laundry and she attended Calvin Christian Reformed Church. Alice and her step-sister, Cora Van Tol enjoyed traveling and living together. Alice enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and making beautiful handkerchiefs, but she will always be remembered for writing and sending countless letters and cards to those she loved.

Alice is survived by nieces, Caroline Vander Schaaf of California, Marjorie (Arie) Boon of Rock Valley, and Marge Niemeyer of Zeeland, Michigan; and nephews, Charles (Renee) Niemeyer of Inwood, Warren Niemeyer of Sioux Falls, and Ellsworth (Lois) Niemeyer of Arizona. She is also survived by the families of her step-father, Case Van Tol and special friend, Lois Postma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Hermina Niemeyer; brothers, Henry and Edward Niemeyer; niece, Norma Edzards; nephew, William Niemeyer; and step-sister, Cora Van Tol.

Alice’s family would like to say “thank you” to Whispering Heights and Calvin Christian Reformed Church for all of their care and compassion.
