August 28, 1936 - September 29, 2015

Larchwood, Iowa - Patty Lou “Pat” Krier, age 79 of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and formerly of Beresford, South Dakota, and Larchwood, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 3rd at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood, with Father Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at the Larchwood Cemetery in Larchwood.

Visitation will be Friday, October 2nd from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary in Larchwood. Also there will be a Vigil service held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church.

Patty Lou Kleine was born on August 28, 1936, in Magnolia, Minnesota, to Ernest and Myrtle (Lehman) Kleine, the 14th of seventeen children. She attended Magnolia Schools and graduated from Magnolia High School in 1954. She worked at the First National Bank in Luverne, Minnesota, until her marriage to Robert Krier in 1955. They made their home in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and later in Sioux City, Iowa.

Robert passed away in 1961 and Patty moved to Larchwood, Iowa, to be closer to family. In 1962 she married Loren Krier, and two years later they moved to Beresford, South Dakota, where they were long-time residents. There Patty was a member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, the Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, and the Legion Auxiliary.

Loren and Patty also lived briefly in Luverne, Minnesota, and most recently in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Patty liked to cook and bake, enjoyed playing cards and crafting, and cheering on the Minnesota Twins with Loren. Her greatest love was taking care of children and she was “Grandma Pat” to many little ones over the years. Loren and Patty enjoyed fifty-two years of marriage until Loren passed away in October of 2014.

She is survived by her daughters, Julie Thiesse of Tea, South Dakota and Rhonda (Stanford) Peterson of Beresford, South Dakota; a son, Tom (Rosanne) Krier of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Dallas Kleine of Bullhead City, Arizona, and Thomas (Penny) Kleine of Summerville, South Carolina; five sisters, Nyla Stearns of Adrian, Minnesota, Joyce (Glen) Hawes of Mission, Texas, Mildred (John) Steece of Luverne, Minnesota, Mary (Floyd) Kraetsch of Luverne, Minnesota, and Janis Glapa of Menomonee, Wisconsin.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, husband Loren, infant son, Gregory Krier; grandson, Jeffrey Peterson; four brothers, Rodney, William, Donald, and Louis and five sisters, Marian, Margaret, Evelyn, Barbara, and Helen.
