Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock for a long time resident of the Alvord area, Robert L. Sullivan, Sr.

Sullivan died Thursday at the Merrill Pioneer Community hospital in Rock Rapids at the age of 74. He had been in failing health-and death was attributed to a stroke. The services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Alvord with Jerome Loutsch officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Porter Funeral home of Inwood. Bearers were Roy Gryson, Er Devitt, Clarence Flanagan, George McCarty sr., Ray Krainer and Joe Vint.

Robert L. Sullivan. Sr. was born at Carmel on January 25, 1895, a son of Martin and Ellen (Barth) Sullivan. He moved to the Alvord area with his family in 1900, the age of five years. He grew up in the Alvord area, and on January 30, 1918, he married Mary Duffy at Alvord. The couple moved to Worthing, South Dakota, they lived for nine years. In 1927 the returned to the Alvord area where spent the rest of his life on a farm just outside of Alvord. He farmed all of his life.

Survivors are his wife; a daughter, Rita, Mrs. P.G. Lewandowski, of Alvord; two sons, Joseph of Sioux Falls and Robert of Alvord; a brother, John and a sister, Clara Sullivan, both of Alvord; and grandchildren.
