Diane Kay Rath, age 61 of Rock Rapids, IA died Wednesday morning August 19, 2015 with family by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Private family service will take place Saturday morning at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, IA with Pastor Kelly Volk officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Public visitation will be Friday, August 21st from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, family wishes memorials be directed to Sanford Hospice BEECIN Foundation, 803 S Greene St. Rock Rapids, IA 51246.

Diane Kay Rath was born June 29, 1954 in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Chester “Chet” E. and Elizabeth “Betty” (De Groot) De Jongh. She was raised in Rock Rapids and attended Rock Rapids Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1972. She continued her education at Stewart’s School of Cosmetology in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and graduated in 1973.

Diane was united in marriage to Ron Rath on August 25, 1973, at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. They lived on a farm southwest of Rock Rapids and farmed while Diane worked as a hairstylist for a few years. In 1977 Diane and Ron moved to the Rath family farm where they raised their three children.

Diane was a member of First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids. Through the years she enjoyed gardening, canning, and the outdoors as well as sewing, scrapbooking, baking and camping. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends in her outdoor room on the farm. Diane especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband, Ron Rath of Rock Rapids, Iowa; three children: Jessica (Jed) Huisman of Brandon, South Dakota, Nathan (Genna) Rath of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and Amy (Shawn) Bosler of Alvord, Iowa; six grandchildren: Treyten Rath, Janessa Huisman, Braeden Otkin, Jayden Huisman, Hudson Bosler, and Bentley Rath; mother, Betty De Jongh of Rock Rapids, Iowa; one brother, Carl (Nancy) De Jongh and one sister, Susan (Jamie) Blair, both of Rock Rapids, Iowa; and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Chet De Jongh; and parents-in-law, Marlin and Helen Rath.
